The International Arts Festival Regarding presents the world premiere of A Message from Gaia, the site-specific vocal participatory promenade created by the Artistic Director of Amsterdam’s Opera Forward Festival, Anthony Heidweiller in association with the renowned Israeli contemporary music ensemble Meitar and performed by the students of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance taking place from October 21st to October 23rd in different locations across Tel Aviv and Old Jaffa.

A site-specific vocal participatory project during which the voices of seven contemporary female vocalists engage with the issue of climate change through diverse political, scientific,  social issues and personal perspectives, A Message From Gaia is the creation of Anthony Heidweiller and will take place on the streets of Tel Aviv and Jaffa as an interactive experience created specifically for the festival. Aiming at portraying the mythic figure of Gaia through the strong statements seven female Israeli environmental activists, A Message From Gaia is brought forth as a vocal manifesto, formed by the statements of the seven outstanding women profiles and presented in different outdoor spaces across the Old City of Jaffa, an ancient port city steeped in history that is now a cultural hotspot and which will be transformed into a stage itself for the performances.

As in previous educational projects by Anthony Heidweiller, A Message From Gaia challenges and inspires a new generation of composers and musicians to give classical music urgency and connect with the big themes of these times. The project has been created thanks to the collaboration of writers, composers, and a series of workshops in Jerusalem with the students of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

Through different masterclasses run by Anthony Heidweiler, Noa Frenkel together with Amit Dolberg (Meitar) and Jonathan Gotlibovich,  a new possibility of creating music through using the space, their body, and improvisation was opened for the students. All together they have created seven short pieces that ask us to heed the call of climate change and the urgency to act now for our collective future.

The site-specific vocal participatory promenade A Message From Gaia is a new project and premiered in the framework of Regarding Goddesses 2021-2022 in Tel Aviv.

The project was realized in a partnership with Old Jaffa Development Company, the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the Ganei Yehoshua Company (Park Ha'Yarkon).
